Emergency Generator:
During the last few years we have experienced a number of electrical outages caused by everything from high winds to ice and snow. In consequence we have had to cancel clinics, deal with the security alarm, and find alternative, emergency refrigeration for many of our supplies. Installing a back-up emergency generator, wired to go on automatically in the case of a power shut-off, would cost about $7000, including installation. This upgrade would ensure safety for our patients as well as enabling us to see patients even when the power is out for medical treatments that cant wait.
Refrigerators:
Refrigeration units, particularly when in comes to medical We need two small refrigeration units without freezer compartments, about $90.00 each and one apartment size refrigerator, with a separate freezer and a locking door, about $200. With new units, there would be a side benefit of energy savings and less electric usage. A smaller carbon footprint and utility bill savings, how much better can it be?needs, are not inexpensive. Even used equipment comes with a high price tag. With a new unit there would be a side benefit of electric savings.
Flowering Plants, Bulbs or Perennials:
Our building looks warm and inviting during the spring when the rhododendrons are in bloom, as can be see by the picture on the front page of our website. However, our landscaping is meager and in need of annuals, perennials and flowering shrubs. Our new walkway donated by SiteStructures lends itself to a beautiful flowering garden and, when a group of young volunteers from Berwick Academy planted pansies on either side of it, the entrance was very inviting. We have a beautiful stone bench and bird bath, where patients and their friends and family often sit and take in the tranquility and beauty. But we have a large area all around the health center and it would be wonderful if we could have something blooming throughout the seasons. It is not something that we feel we can put into our budget when there are so many patient related needs we must meet, but if you have plants in your yard that need dividing or when you are shopping for your garden and find a bargain, please think of us. Those plants could brighten so many lives.
Throw Pillows and New Blankets:
Amazingly we go through a lot of throw pillows and we always need more and those of you who live in old house know that even heating can be a problem. Blankets for patients would be warmly welcomed.
Wall Clocks:
Four new, relatively large say 8", wall clocks would be very welcome. Ones with clear numbers are the easiest to read.
Wall Lights and Lamps:
Our current wall sconces provide inadequate lighting and quite frankly are gloomy. Two bright and pretty sconces would brighten our waiting room and enable visitors to read comfortably. Floor lamps would fit in several corners where additional light would be useful. Table lamps that accommodate 3 way bulbs would also be incredibly useful.
Thank You:
Your help, either with items or designated gifts for any of the above, would get us needed items that we cant budget for and would be greatly appreciated by patients and staff alike. These gifts enable us to continue to provide quality care in a supportive setting. Thank you for however you can assist.
